We come across different types of fabrics in our daily life. According to the type of fibers used in them, the fabrics are divided into two categories: natural and synthetic fibers. Cotton, denim, wool and silk fabrics are among the most common examples of natural fiber fabrics. Cotton is made from the cotton plant, silk is made from silkworm cocoons, and wool is made from sheep’s wool.
All kinds of natural fiber fabrics
Natural fiber fabrics are fabrics made from natural raw materials. Some of the common types of these fabrics are:
cotton
Cotton fabric is one of the most popular fabrics in the world and has been used by humans for thousands of years. Growing cotton is harmful to the environment because it requires a lot of water to produce it. The amount of water needed to produce a shirt with cotton fibers is about 2700 liters.
Cotton fibers are made from the seeds of the cotton plant. After that, these fibers are separated and spun into cotton fabric. Cotton is widely used in the clothing industry due to its lightness and having pores for air to pass through. In hot and humid areas, cotton clothes are very practical.
silk
Silk fabrics are woven from silk thread, which is usually obtained from silkworm cocoons. The most common type of cocoon used is obtained from a specific type of silkworm called Bombyx mori. Silk fabrics are very desirable in areas with hot climates due to their ability to absorb a lot of moisture. The surface of natural silk fiber fabrics is very soft, which conveys a pleasant feeling to humans.
wool
Woolen fabrics are woven from wool fibers obtained from animals such as sheep. Woolen fabrics and clothing are mostly used in cold regions. Because they are very good insulation against heat transfer and can protect the body well against cold. Wool is also used to produce blankets, carpets and rugs.
hemp
Hemp is a plant similar to marijuana that has various uses. Hemp is used in food, building materials, body health care, biofuels and fabric production. The more hemp fabric is washed, the softer it becomes. The hemp plant consumes much less water than the cotton plant and its growing conditions are also very comfortable.
linen
Linen thread is taken from the flax plant. The flax plant grows in poor quality agricultural land and needs little water. The long fibers inside the stem of the plant are extracted and the skin is separated using water, and then spinning is done. Linen fabric has high resistance and the more it is worn, the softer and more flexible it becomes. The durability of natural linen fabrics is very high, so clothes of this type usually have a long life and are affordable. Also, this fabric is completely biodegradable and there is no need to worry about the environment using these fabrics.
